ABOUT THE PRACTICE
R. Edwards & Company is an East Calais-based full-service architecture practice founded by architect and sixth-generation Vermonter, Ryan Edwards, AIA. The practice is dedicated to creating contextual and creative craft-focused architecture, as well as thoughtfully rehabilitating and preserving historic buildings here in Vermont.
The practice is named not only for Ryan Edwards, but for Ryan’s late father and grandfather – who have instilled the values of honesty and integrity (with a healthy dose of humor) upon which R. Edwards & Company operates today.
OUR ETHOS
WE BELIEVE IN THE CRAFT OF BUILDING.
In an age where material-like products are becoming more commonplace than actual materials, we believe in creating architecture that utilizes real materials in a manner that embraces and celebrates their unique aesthetic and tactile qualities.
WE BELIEVE IN FUN.
We like to play in the mud, too. Too many people associate architecture with pretentious and stodgy intellectualism. It isn’t. It’s about creating inspired spaces for people to enjoy and share with others; from friends and family, to neighbors and coworkers.
WE BELIEVE IN CREATIVE COLLABORATION.
We believe that the best architecture comes not from one architect’s vision, but from a carefully coordinated and creative collaboration between the owner, architect, and builder, to the engineers and consultants.
WE BELIEVE IN THE BUILDER.
We believe that a master builder has as much to bring to a project as that of the architect, and in embracing the skills of both we can create the most successful projects for our clients.
WE BELIEVE IN EMPOWERING THE CLIENT.
Recognizing that many clients have not worked with an architect before, we believe in educating our clients to help them understand what we as architects do such that the client can get the most value out of our services as well as feeling that they have as much to bring to the table as that of the architect and builder.
